A man from Pumula in Bulawayo who stabbed his estranged wife seven times and went into hiding has been arrested after a manhunt that started early this month.
Vusumuzi Thusi appeared in court yesterday before magistrate Maphios Moyo who remanded him in custody to April 28 this year. He advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the arrest saying that Thusi was found by the police hiding on a mountain near Khami Dam.
“Thusi was nabbed by vigilant police officers who found him hiding at a mountain near Khami Dam. Thusi was on the wanted list for attempted murder,” said Moyo.
Thusi allegedly stabbed Siphiwe Ndlovu, 48, after she had refused to go back to their house in Old Pumula. She had left after a long standing dispute .

Armed with two knives, Thusi went berserk and ambushed Ndlovu after she had told him she no longer wanted to stay with him because of his abusive behaviour.
“He came to my vending stall and insisted that I move back to our house but I refused. He slapped me once and I screamed. He disappeared after people came running to see what was happening,” Ndlovu said recently.

She said she had stopped selling her wares at her stall fearing that Thusi could return.
He however caught up with her after she had gone out to see a neighbour.

“It was already dark outside and I saw him running towards me. He quickly produced two knives and ripped my stomach open.
“I fell to the ground and he started stabbing me all over the body. He tried stabbing me on the face but I covered it with my right hand and his knife cut through my wrist. He disappeared after realising that I was not moving,” said Ndlovu.

A motorist passing by saw her and took her to Mpilo Central Hospital after making a report at Pumula Police Station.
