HIGHLANDERS coach Kelvin Kaindu is likely to leave the Bulawayo giants in the next few months to take up a national team coaching job in his native Zambia, Chronicle Sport can reveal. He is set to take charge of the Zambian Under-23 side for their Olympic qualifiers. The Football Association of Zambia (Faz) have confirmed the imminent move, certain to send shock waves within Highlanders. He will most likely work with former Hwange and FC Platinum coach Tennant Chilumba who dumped the latter unexpectedly last season.

Investigations over the last two weeks have revealed that the former Zanaco and Highlanders striker has always been on the radar of the Kalusha Bwalya-led Faz who are also believed to have been funding his advanced coaching courses in the United Kingdom.

The Zambian has been making up and down trips to the UK for his Uefa B coaching badge, all the time going via Zambia. He left for Zambia on Tuesday, apparently following the expiry of his visa and is expected back in Zimbabwe today or tomorrow.

“Yes we are planning for that, because he is doing well there.  He will be in charge of the Under-23s for the Olympics,” said Faz technical director, Honour Janza yesterday.

He said they start their preparations next month and will soon be engaging the Highlanders leadership over the issue.

“It will depend on him and his employers in terms of when he would probably start but we need him,” said Janza, a respected figure within the Zambian football circles.

Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said they were yet to get official communication either from Faz or Kaindu.

“We are not aware of that (Kaindu’s impending move).  They have not advised us and naturally we will look at things when we get to that situation,” said Dube.

He declined to answer more questions.

Kaindu, who played for Highlanders, had his second romance with the Bulawayo giants in January 2012 now as coach.  He jetted into the country on 16 January 2012 during the Themba Ndlela-regime after penning an initial two-year deal which was renewed by a further two years by the Dube executive after he had won the Mbada Diamonds Cup in December.

In his first year in charge, Kaindu led Bosso to an unbeaten run of 23 matches but still failed to land the league title, losing it on goal difference to bitter rivals Dynamos.  He lost it on goal difference again to the same rivals last season.

Kaindu could not be reached for comment yesterday.

There is also speculation that he might move to Jomo Cosmos of South Africa.
