OVIDY Karuru’s agent has denied claims by AmaZulu coach Joey Antipas that his client has signed the option on his contract.

Antipas earlier revealed to KickOff.com that Karuru was staying put at Usuthu next season after the option on his contract had been exercised.

However, the 28-year-old’s representative Shane Costa has since shot down such claims and insists that both parties are still engaging on the player’s future, and should they fail to come to an agreement then the player is likely to leave.

“Basically we are looking for the best opportunity for Ovidy,” Costa tells this website.

“What I know is that there’s a lot of interest in the player and AmaZulu have an option to extend his contract, but at this time we are still very much in negotiations on the best deal for him.

“I want to add that if we cannot find a suitable agreement with the club then we will be exploring the option of a transfer for Ovidy.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs winger joined Usuthu as a free agent in February, on a short-term deal with a one-year option, after being clubless for more than six months since being shown the exit door at Naturena.

Prior to this year’s Cosafa Castle Cup, Karuru, who finished as top goal scorer as Zimbabwe lifted the title in Rustenburg last weekend, told this website that there had been interest in his services both locally and in Scandinavia. — KickOff
