KHAYA Mthethwa is following in his father’s footsteps. The talented multi award-winning star told SunBuzz recently that one of the proudest moments of his life was when his dad ordained him as a pastor in his KZN church.

Khaya has moved back home and is now a youth pastor at the Oasis Church in Umlazi, south of Durban.

Khaya said: “People who know me are aware that this has been my journey for the past 18 years.

“I’m honoured to have been entrusted to lead the people. My dad has been grooming me for the past 10 years. Now is the right time for everything to happen.”

The 30-year-old pastor said that he has grown up in church.

“The congregation has seen my mistakes and my achievements and they’ve been supportive so far,” he said.

Khaya is also doing his Masters in Theology at the South African Theological Seminary.

Despite his heavy schedule, Khaya has not neglected his music career.

He’s expected to release a new album by next June.

“I’ve been working on some new music. I’m also planning to record a DVD towards the end of the year which will give people a snippet of my new music,” he said.

Khaya told SunBuzz that he has gigs lined up in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and the US. They are all scheduled for this month and September.

The soulful singer said he would like to be remembered as a soul winner.

“Our country went through some political fights and now the fight is against the social ills of the country. There’s moral degeneration so I want to help people, especially the young, to get back to God,” Khaya said. — SunBuzz
