#KnowYourArtiste: Gary Tight

Gary Tight

Born on December 2, 1994, Gary Tight is a young Zimbabwean afro pop musician and also son of veteran musician, Willom Tight.

The young talented singer who did his Ordinary and Advanced studies at Churchill Boys High School in Harare started singing as a young boy with Willom playing a big role mentoring him into the musician that he is today.

According to his father, Gary started doing music when he was two years old, but he started taking it seriously after a performance he did when he was 10 years old in Mabvuku, hence making him realise that he had a gap to fill in the music industry.

He has shared the stage with well established artists including Oliver Mtukudzi, the late Chiwoniso Maraire, Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah, to mention but a few.

Gary is good with the guitar and has a band called Gary Tight and the Tight family. His songs include Pachiso, Wakakosha, Mararamiro and Dzvene as well as a collaboration with Jah Prayzah on track Ndazonyora.

So talented is the artiste that when celebrations to remember Mtukudzi’s late son — Sam were held — Gary was entrusted by Tuku to sing Sam’s songs.

In 2015, the young musician was enrolled at the Zimbabwe College of Music. The college trains musicians on various aspects related to their craft ranging from management to developing a brand. Gary has toured Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy.
