ZIFA Central Soccer League (CSL) title contenders Tongogara were awarded three points on a 3-0 scoreline after the league suspended Kwekwe Stars for failing to settle its affiliation fees.

CSL chairman Stanley Chapeta said Kwekwe Stars risk being booted out of the league in the event that they fail to settle their affiliation fee before the next league games.

“They should pay up their affiliation and if they do not settle their dues by the weekend then they would have expelled themselves from the league,” said Chapeta.

The free points to Tongogara saw them going within two points of leaders Whawha who were held to a goalless draw by Vumbachikwe in Gwanda.

Tongogara are now on 49 points while Whawha have 51 points.

Elsewhere, Nichrut returned to winning ways after beating MSU 1-0 at MSU at the weekend.

Asani Nhongo’s free kick inside the first three minutes of the game ensured that the Shurugwi based side collected their first set of maximum points since the turn of second half of the season.

The win came as a relief to Nichrut gaffer John Nyikadzino.

“I am very happy with the win especially after playing badly after the midseason break. It was a morale booster for us and we now have to build on this win and ensure that we maintain consistency,” said Nyikadzino.

Elsewhere, ZPC Munyati’s championship campaign suffered a setback when they were beaten 2-3 by ZRP Gwanda at Pelandaba Stadium.

The loss left the power generators 10 points behind log leaders Whawha.
