THE launch of the Landa John Nkomo Memorial Trust on Friday will ensure a completion of the projects the late Vice-President could not complete during his lifetime, his family said yesterday.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the launch to be held at a Bulawayo hotel.
Jabulani Nkomo, the family spokesperson and son to the late Vice-President, said the trust would also perpetuate Landa Nkomo’s legacy of developing and empowering communities.

He said the late VP conceived the idea for the trust to raise funds so that his projects would continue running after his death.
VP Nkomo died in January last year.

“We the children of the late VP decided to register a trust in our father’s name. He was actually in the final stages of registering it himself. Unfortunately, he never managed to. We therefore adopted the one that he was working on and finalised it,” said Nkomo.
He said his father dedicated his life to serving the people and the trust would ensure that his dream lives on.

“We are aware of his many good deeds and we would like to ensure that we carry on with them in the best way possible. One of these ways was to register a trust in his name. We consider this to be a perfect vehicle through which we can campaign for funds to carry on with his projects, especially Landa J High School. We hope in the process we will be able to keep his legacy alive,” Nkomo said.

He said the family had appointed a board of trustees to spearhead the attainment of VP Nkomo’s dream.
“We are happy that we have elders and political leaders that guided us to identify the suitable candidates to be on the board of trustees.

This board will be announced in due course. We are assured and confident that this trust is in capable hands and will deliver on its objectives,” said Nkomo.

He said for the Friday launch, there would be a fundraising dinner where a table for 10 people would be pegged at $500.
Nkomo said on Saturday, a golf tournament would be held and each of the participating teams, made up of four people, would pay $200.

He said the family had invited the corporate world but was still inviting more people as Cde Nkomo had many friends and had impacted on the lives of thousands of Africans.

“We hope we will be able to raise a decent amount of money to see the trust investing in something meaningful for the school. We have tried as much as possible to contact corporates and individuals that we believe can assist in our efforts. We have not exhausted them because our father was a father to many, but we will ensure that after the launch we go as wide as possible to get many on board our fundraising initiatives,” said Nkomo.
