A LANDLORD from Bulawayo’s Nketa suburb has been sentenced to do 210hours of unpaid work for allegedly stabbing his tenant with an empty beer bottle on the arm after accusing her of stealing money from him.

Effort Ndlovu, 20, also punched Memory Gama, 33, of the same suburb all over the body resulting in her sustaining injuries.

Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso sentenced Ndlovu to a wholly suspended nine months in jail.

“Three months are going to be suspended on condition of good behaviour. The remaining six months are suspended on condition that you perform 210 hours of community service at Tshabalala Police Station,” said Chimiso.

Ndlovu told the magistrate that he was sorry for what he did to Gama.

“I was very angry when I assaulted her. May she forgive me and I won’t repeat the same mistake,” he said after pleading guilty to a physical abuse charge.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told the court that on Sunday at around 9PM, Ndlovu approached Gama demanding money which he claimed she had stolen.

“A misunderstanding erupted leading to the accused person assaulting the complainant with an empty bottle once on the left arm and with fists all over her body. She sustained an injury on the arm, a swollen face and back,” said Mageza.

The prosecutor said Gama was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention.
