MANGWE South MP Cde Obedingwa Mguni (Zanu-PF) escaped unhurt on Saturday night after his Ford Ranger rammed into a tractor along the Bulawayo-Plumtree road. The tractor driver and a passenger were thrown off on impact, and both needed hospital treatment after the 8pm smash.

Cde Mguni was returning home to Mangwe district after attending celebrations for the recent appointment of Cde Nomthandazo Moyo as Minister of State for Bulawayo Province at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).

He told Chronicle: “When approaching the 22km peg, I rammed into a tractor that was towing a plough and travelling in the same direction.

“The tractor had no lights or reflectors and I only realised after I heard a loud bang that there was a vehicle ahead of me. I escaped unhurt although my car was a complete write-off.

“The driver of the tractor and a lady who was a passenger sustained injuries after they were thrown out of the tractor.”
Cde Mguni said he immediately called the police who attended to the scene and took the injured to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF will on Saturday host election victory celebrations at Cde Mguni’s homestead in Mangwe with several artists, including Chase Skuza, Iyasa and Ndolwane Super Sounds, set to perform.

Said Cde Mguni: “The celebrations are unique to Zanu-PF because the party took a clean sweep in all the 13 constituencies in Matabeleland South province, which used to be dominated by MDC-T.

“It’s therefore important for us to celebrate and thank the people who voted overwhelmingly on the July 31 elections.”
Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, the Senior Minister of State, will be the guest of honour.
