FORMER Generations star, Dineo Mashaba (real name Katlego Danke) who was fired from the soapie along with 16 other actors last year says she is now focusing more on producing, directing and motherhood.Danke, mother to an eight-month-old son, was in Bulawayo with fellow actress Zinthle Ncipha (Kamo in Rhythm City) on Africa Day for the promotional trailer of Ziyanda — a feature film they star in.

“Motherhood has been a wonderful experience for me. I appreciate and value the time I spend with my son because I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands when I was into acting full-time,” said Danke.

She said leaving Generations had allowed her the opportunity to venture into other areas of the television business.

“I’ve taken a step back from the acting front because I’m more interested in producing and directing and other behind the scenes work. I’ve also started a presenting job for Lotto and Powerball in South Africa,” said Danke.

Turning to Ziyanda, in which she plays an Interpol detective trying to disband a human trafficking ring, Danke said she was grateful to be part of a film that deals with issues that affect a significant number of Africans.

“I’m grateful to have been invited to be part of the cast of a film of this nature. It’s an important story that we’re telling and it touches the hearts of many Africans. A lot of people’s lives have been destroyed as a result of human trafficking and it’s one of those stories that remain untold.

“I hope we raise awareness through this film,” said Danke.

The actress said she had also used the experience to impart knowledge to aspiring actors in Zimbabwe.

“I hope through skills transfer the next generation of actors will be able to stand up and be counted among the world’s best actors.

“Hopefully, with projects like this, we can grow a generation of actors that Africa can be proud of as the continents’ ambassadors internationally,” said Danke.
