A FORMER Victoria Falls MDC-T councillor has been dragged to court for failing to repay nearly $900 owed to a local loan shark.

Million Moyo of 5732 Mkhosana suburb appeared before Victoria Falls Magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje after defaulting on a debt owed to Mr Obert Dube.

The magistrate instructed Moyo to pay $890 owed to Mr Dube.

Moyo pleaded with the court to allow him to pay $50 per month starting from November 30 and his request was granted.

The two men seemed to be in disagreement when they first appeared in court as they tossed blame on each other in a winding tale of how the money was spent until the magistrate lost her patience and threw them out of the court room.

“I don’t want to hear your stories, both of you go outside and discuss. You come back inside when you have your facts straight,” said Ms Gakanje.

After a few minutes, the two men emerged and Moyo seemed to have regained his memory of the transaction which apparently took place in 2015.

Mr Dube produced an affidavit which stated that Moyo had signed for $500 he had borrowed from him.

According to the document, he had agreed to an interest of 40 percent, with the amount accumulating every month.

Moyo told the court that he had given the plaintiff some of the money but when asked for evidence he failed to produce any proof of payment.

“Your Worship I gave him $250 initially, then I sent a young man to give him $20 and his wife collected $10 from me,” he said.

“I just gave him the money and trusted that he would note it down but I did not make him sign anywhere.”

When asked why he had borrowed money from a “loan shark”, Moyo said at the time, he was in desperate need of funds to help his ailing mother.

“Next time Mr Moyo don’t be so trusting and please find a book where you can have people sign for money that they get from you,” said the magistrate
