Ma1 Nemamonya hit-maker Patrick “Peekay” Kahlari will be heading to Bulawayo this weekend for a show at Club Forty-40. The Afro-centric hip-hop artiste who is fresh from shooting a music video Show me love which features top Jamaican dancehall reggae artiste Busy Signal said he was looking forward to his debut performance in the city.

He said he would distribute Show Me Love DVDs for free at the show as a way of marketing his music.
“My fans should be assured of an energetic performance. I am one who believes in vigorous marketing so I don’t expect people in Bulawayo to start buying my music from nowhere as they don’t know me much.

“To make them know me, I will distribute DVDs of my new video for the song Show Me Love which features Busy Signal for free so that they have a feel of my music in the comfort of their homes,” he said.

Speaking on artistes in Bulawayo, Peekay who rose to fame last year after releasing hit single Ma1 which features Ba Shupi said artistes here needed more exposure to be competitive.

“We should be having more Bulawayo artistes coming to Harare to market their music.
“They should not only market their music through the radio but by staging shows. This will make them competitive in the musical landscape,” he said.
He added that artistes in the city needed to quickly up their game and come up with their own music genre which would be at par with Zimdancehall.

“Zimdancehall is posing a threat to Bulawayo artistes as it is now taking the musical landscape by storm. Bulawayo artistes need to really stay above the water in order to stay competitive,” he said.

Peekay bounced back onto the music scene last year after a three-year absence.
According to him, he left the music business after being discouraged by the fact that one had to fund themselves because the music industry in Zimbabwe was not financially rewarding.

The artiste said he hoped to follow in the footsteps of Chimurenga music legend Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo who could perform for a crowd full of diverse people.
