A Bulawayo man broke into a fellow tenant’s room and assaulted her while she was naked. Machanika Mwembe, 30, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso yesterday facing unlawful entry, criminal insult and assault charges.
He pleaded guilty and was remanded him in custody to today for sentencing.

Prosecuting, Whatmore Tembo said on Friday last week at around 7PM, Mwembe entered Pretty Mudenda’s room.

He saw the woman coming from the bathroom naked and started assaulting her using fists.

“The two are tenants and they stay at the same house but in different rooms. Machanika went into Pretty Mudenda’s room and assaulted her while she was naked,” Tembo he said.

In mitigation, Mwembe told the court that he does not remember what really transpired as he was drunk.

“I do not know what came over me and I do not even know how I got into her room. I was so drunk that I do not even remember what transpired that day.

“Have mercy on me Your Worship,” he said as he begged the magistrate to fine him.

“Your Worship, please can I pay a fine because I have minor children to take care of. When I committed this offence I was under the influence of alcohol, I don’t even know what I was doing,” he said.
