COMEDIAN Carl Joshua Ncube has demanded a rematch from organisers of the Valentine’s Day “Love Fiesta” after legislator Joseph Chinotimba and his wife Vimbai won the kissing competition, over the weekend because the competition ended too early.

Chinotimba’s kiss lasted for 10 minutes and 17 seconds in a competition organised by the Book of African Records. Chinotimba walked away with a food hamper, $1,000 and a year’s DTSV subscription.

The video showing Chinotimba kissing his wife has since gone viral on social media.

Not to be outdone Ncube, who was in Victoria Falls over the weekend, posted a picture of himself kissing his wife Nelsy at the Harare airport and expressed his disappointment at missing the event.

“Nelsy and I spent the whole day kissing only to find out that Hon Chinotimba had won the longest kiss and the function was over way before our flight landed, we demand a rematch,” posted Ncube.

All through last week Ncube said he had been practising for the kissing competition only to fail to make it on time on the day. He added that the competition had taught him to take pictures of him kissing his wife wherever he goes.

“We didn’t get to make it in time to participate in the eventual competition won by Hon Chinotimba but I got to kiss my wife all over Victoria Falls up in a plane, at the airport, in the cab, by the luggage section….it got me thinking of taking a picture of me and Nelsy kissing wherever we travel so our kids later won’t think it’s such a taboo for public shows of affection! LIVE NOW, LOVE ALWAYS! ‪#‎teamNCUBE‬,” posted Ncube.

The event was an initiative by the Book of African Records to encourage Zimbabweans to break a record that will be published in the upcoming Book of African Records Zimbabwe Edition next year.

The contestants were married couples and had to kiss continuously with lips touching at all times. If the lips were unlocked then the couple was immediately disqualified. Proof of marriage was required and it was also open to couples married under customary law. The contestants were not allowed to be supported by any aids.

Rest breaks were not allowed. Concubines or girlfriends or those who are engaged were not allowed in the competition. The world record for the longest kiss stands at 58 hours and is held by a Thai couple.
