THE Bulawayo Amateur Football Association ended on Saturday with the presentation of awards. Madamara Football Club were crowned league champions. They finished on top of the table with 73 points from 30 games while contenders for the title Rebels, had 69.

Former champions Rebels dropped precious points when they abandoned a match against Securico last weekend which diminished their chances of finishing top of the table this season.

Bafa chairman Chris Mtungwazi applauded Madamara for winning the championship.

“Congratulations to Madamara Football Club you played very well this season and I can safely say that you deserve to be the 2014 champions of Bafa,” he said.

Mtungwazi acknowledged challenges that they had faced as Bafa and appealed to the corporate world to come and sponsor their 2015 activities.

“We had a very tough year, though am still happy with the progress we faced a lot of financial constraints which made most of our plans for the 2014 season not succeed. We were affected but we are hoping that in the 2015 season things will change with the assistance of the corporate world,” he said.

Charles Chunda the vice chairman of Bafa said three more teams are likely to join in the Bafa league race next year.

“Indeed it has been a tough year but we are hoping that may be we can be lucky and get sponsors for the 2015 season, one thing for sure is that we will be expecting three teams to join in the league namely OK Mart, Afdis and Econet Wireless,” he said.

“We had a few hiccups in 2014 but am happy with some of our achievements this year, we managed to get more teams participate in the league something that is very difficult to do, I am happy,” he said.
