HWANGE FC have realigned their junior football development by disbanding their Zifa Southern Region Division One side Hwange Under-20.

According to Hwange FC administrator Khumbulani Mbano, they will retain the Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two league side that will be renamed Hwange Reserves, with an age limit of 21 years.

“The club hierarchy has had a relook at the setup of our junior development and this year we won’t be having the Under-20 team in Division One, but rather will have an expanded age bracket for the remaining junior side.

“The remaining junior team will be renamed, as it will absorb most of the players from the old side and the ones who were playing for that team already. Obviously there will be lots of competition in the team and we hope that will add value and entertainment,” said Mbano.

Under-20 coach Brian Njovu has now been snapped up by town rivals Makomo FC, who play in Division One.

Makomo FC chairman Menard Maera confirmed they had given Njovu a two-year deal.

“Yes Njovu has been appointed head coach at Makomo FC for two years. The main aim here is to be more competent and qualify for top flight football at least within three years from now and we believe Brian can lead us to the Promised Land if we support him with resources and even more time,” said Maera.

“He is free to choose his own technical team which he deems capable of producing results, but what we want at the end of the day is to have another PSL club in Hwange town very soon.”

Njovu was also upbeat about his new assignment.

“Makomo have big ambitions and I will strive to assemble a strong team that can win any match in the league and qualify for the big league. We have not changed the present technical personnel, but with the blessing of the team’s bosses, we will add a few brains so that we have a successful project,” said Njovu.
