Makonese returns to Pirates’ first team training

According to Kickoff.com, Makonese trained with the development team after falling out with Krol, but he was now back with the first team since Monday last week.

“It feels good to be back and training with the first team,” Makonese was quoted as saying on the club website.
“I started on Monday morning and everything is going well so far and I hope things improve for the better as I am determined to get my career back on track.”

No mention was made about action, if any, would be taken against the 33 year-old after reports claimed he had gone Awol. He was spotted by Harare-based H-Metro tabloid dancing the night away with alleged prostitute two weeks back.

However, the prospect of Makonese leaving Pirates during the January transfer window remains a possibility with Maritzburg United and Platinum Stars who are home to former Highlanders captain and goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini, making tentative inquiries.
Makonese has only played once this season and that was in the very first official match of the campaign and since then he has not even made the bench.

Meanwhile, leading South African Premiership striker, with nine goals so far and Kaizer Chiefs’ Zimbabwean striker, Knowledge Musona has hit blanks in Chiefs’ last two games.
In fact, Musona last scored on 22 December last year in which he scored a brace in the 2-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces.

On Friday, they were stunned by Ajax Cape Town 1-0. It was a game in which Ajax’s Khama Billiat, formerly with Caps United played a blinder of a game, perhaps sending a message back home that he is ripe for a national team call up.

The Cape Town-based outfit, also home to Tafadzwa Rusike and William Katsande, are now lying second on the log table, three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who pummeled Maritzburg United 3-0 on Saturday to get back to winning ways following a 1-0 defeat to Chiefs on 8 January.
Nyasha Mushekwi, Method Mwanjali, Lionel Mtizwa all former Caps United players and Esrom Nyandoro are in the books of the Brazilians, as Mamelodi are affectionately known.

It is, however, the inclusion of Nyandoro who is also the captain that has been marred in controversy as he picked up his third yellow card in the 1-0 defeat to Chiefs.
Kapini played his tenth consecutive match for Platinum Stars as they held Kingstone Nkatha’s Free State Stars to a one-all draw on Sunday. – Chronicle
