A 28-YEAR-OLD Mangwe man stabbed his ex-wife six times with a knife on the head and left her for dead after accusing her of infecting him with HIV.

The man, who cannot be named to protect his victim, invaded his ex-wife’s homestead at around 11PM while she was sleeping and attacked her.

The suspect appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Joshua Mawere facing attempted murder charges.

He was remanded in custody to December 15.

Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said the suspect only stopped attacking his ex-wife after her mother who was sleeping in another hut intervened.

“On 12 November around 11PM, he budged into his ex-wife’s bedroom hut while she was sleeping and started insulting her.

“ He went on to accuse her of infecting him with HIV and punched her several times all over the body. He retrieved a knife and stabbed her twice on the head and four times on her back,’’ said Mrs Sibanda.

She said the woman’s mother who was sleeping in a separate hut heard her daughter screaming and came to her rescue.

She said he fled from the homestead and disappeared into the bushes.

The matter was reported to the police resulting in his arrest.

She sustained wounds on her head and back as a result of the attack.
