A GWERU-based Zanu-PF supporter yesterday appeared in court for disrupting First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe’s Bulawayo rally after he walked onto the podium and picked up a microphone without permission.
Emmanuel Muzorera, 34, who attended the rally that was held at AmaZulu Sports Club, was charged with disrupting a public gathering as he allegedly intended to prevent the transaction of the business of the day after he picked up a microphone that was in use.
Muzorera was remanded in custody to October 20 for trial.

He initially pleaded guilty to picking up the microphone when he appeared before provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa.
However, when the magistrate asked him to confirm that he indeed intended to disrupt the proceedings at the rally, he denied saying he had wanted to deliver a solidarity message.

Magistrate Msipa said she would therefore enter a plea of not guilty as Muzorera had said he had wanted to give a speech.
“Your Worship, I’m a Zanu-PF supporter who had attended the rally. I picked up the microphone because I wanted to give a solidarity message to the First Lady. I never intended to disrupt the programme but I wanted to give a speech as well,” Muzorera said.

The state led by Dennmore Kasenza alleges that on October 15 at around 3PM, Constable Emmanuel Gundukayi was on duty at AmaZulu Sports Club where the First Lady was holding a rally.

Muzorera, who was one of the people attending the rally, stood up and went to the podium where he picked up the microphone without permission.

He was arrested and taken to Bulawayo Central Police for further investigations.
