A Bulawayo man yesterday pleaded with a court to grant him a protection order against his son who is violent and abusive towards him. Levus Phiri, 73, of Magwegwe North said his last born son, Oram Phiri, 33, threatened to destroy his girlfriend’s car if he married her.

Levus, a father of seven children, told magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure that his wife died four years ago.

He said his children did not want him to marry another woman.

Levus said he stays with Oram who he accused of bringing different women to the house.

“Your Worship, I asked my children if I can marry again but they refused and as such they have stopped relating well with me. I stay with Oram and he’s always threatening to destroy my girlfriend’s car if I go ahead and marry her,” Phiri said.

“I’m also requesting that the court bans him from bringing numerous girlfriends to the house. I also want him to stop fighting with his girlfriend in my presence because when I ask him to stop he doesn’t listen, instead he tells me that he’ll beat up my girlfriend as well if I marry her,” he added.

Magistrate Mashavakure granted the protection order and told Oram to respect his father and stop threatening him. “He is your father, you should learn to know your position as his son and stop abusing him,” Mashavakure said.

Oram admitted that he did not want his father to remarry but would change his behaviour.

He told the court that he did not threaten to destroy his father’s girlfriend’s car and denied threatening to beat her up.
