A GOLD panner from Gwanda stabbed his wife and then committed suicide after he allegedly caught her being intimate with his young brother.

Sinoty Lunga, 37, was found hanging from a tree at about 5PM on Tuesday near Garikai/ Hlalani Kuhle suburb after attacking his wife whom he left for dead.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele yesterday said Lunga had a misunderstanding with his wife and stabbed her once on the chest.

He allegedly thought she had died and fled from the scene before hanging himself.

“Sinoty Lunga was discovered on a small hill on the outskirts of Garikai/ Hlalani Kuhle. He was found hanging from a tree already dead,” said Insp Ndebele.

He appealed to members of the public to seek peaceful way ways of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence which leads to loss of life.

A source said Lunga arrived home on Tuesday and found his young brother, identified only as Thabani, having sex with his wife, a MaNdlovu, at their matrimonial home in Garikai/ Hlalani Kuhle suburb.

“When he arrived home, he caught his wife red handed having sex with his brother.

He then tried to stab his young brother but he hid behind the woman and he stabbed her once on the chest.

She collapsed and he thought he had killed her and fled from the scene.

He later hanged himself using a copper wire,” said the source.

The source claimed that Lunga had previously applied for a peace order barring his young brother from seeing his wife after he had allegedly discovered the affair.

“Lunga was aware of the two’s relationship and he had applied for a peace order barring the two lovebirds from seeing each other.

The wife is a vendor at a leading night spot in Gwanda and that’s where they used to see each other,” the source said.
