Logan Cup, Day Three in Bulawayo: Manicaland Mountaineers 150 and 259/7 (98.0 overs); Matabeleland Tuskers 289 Manicaland Mountaineers lead by 120 runs with three wickets remaining

MANICALAND Mountaineers who had slumped to a mediocre 147-run total in the first innings, leaving them with a deficit of 139 by the close of second day action, have recovered and are yielding closer to a positive result.

Going into their last day of the Logan Cup tie against Matabeleland Tuskers at Queens Sports Club today, the visitors who ended Day Three with Kevin Kasuza and Tapiwa Mafudza at the crease will be hoping to frustrate their opponents by staying longer.

Manicaland Mountaineers still have Tatenda Mapunga and Natsai M’shangwe to bat.

The visitors started their day on a positive note with skipper Tino Mawoyo and Charles Kunje leading their chase.

Kunje was the only one in his team who scored half a century managing 93 runs off 186 balls losing his wicket to Andile Ndlovu while his opening partner Mawoyo scored 43 runs off 116 before going out after 36.1 overs.

Shingirai Masakadza also weighed in with 39 runs.

Wayne James, the Matabeleland Tuskers coach spoke about the need for his bowlers to get three quick wickets which could swing the game into their favour.

John “Master Spin” Nyumbu got four wickets yesterday with Ndlovu, Brian Vitori and Luke Jongwe got one apiece.

“It’s not easy to get three quick early wickets but we’re going to try and do just that. We’ve got a good bowling unit and I’m sure they will be able to get those three wickets. What we don’t want is to be left under pressure faced with a situation where we are left with too many runs to chase,” said James.
