MASIYEPHAMBILI Junior School scooped the Nissan Clover Leaf Motors St Thomas Aquinas Primary Schools’ soccer festival on Saturday for the fourth consecutive time.

The tournament featured 10 schools, with some coming from as far afield as Victoria Falls, Gweru, Hwange and Gwanda.

St Thomas Aquinas headmaster, Cuthbert Chiromo said the festival was growing every year as some individuals provided additional prizes for the winners.

Masiyephambili coach, Zenzo Siwela said he was ecstatic his school had won the tournament for the fourth time in a row.

“I’ve coached the teams that have won in the past so to a certain extent I expected my side to win and it happened. The boys displayed a high standard of football and I was extremely impressed as a coach,” said Siwela.

The teams were drawn into two groups of five.

Portland Primary School was the runner up while the host school St Thomas Aquinas came third.

Kudakwashe Jairos, St Thomas Aquinas’ assistant coach said third place was a big achievement considering that they were competing against schools with larger pools of talent to choose from.

“We’re a small school with one stream per grade so our player base isn’t as wide as the other schools.” he said.
