THE Masvingo High Court will open tomorrow as part of the government’s measures to bring the justice delivery system closer to the people.

It is located at the Old Civil Court Building and will be officially opened by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who also oversees the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

According to the programme for the court’s official opening, the Minister for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Shuvai Mahofa will deliver welcome remarks, while Judge President Justice George Chiweshe will deliver the closing remarks.

The Chief Justice, Godfrey Chidyausiku, the Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana, the Attorney General Prince Machaya, Service Chiefs and members of the Law Society of Zimbabwe are also expected to attend.

Speaking after touring the building last year, the Chief Justice said a resident High Court in Masvingo was a priority given the increasing number of murder cases reported in the province.

He said apart from Masvingo, there are plans to open a High Court in Midlands and Manicaland so as to bring justice closer to the people.
