THE best schools in Matabeleland North Province are Dimpamiwa Primary in Nkayi District and John Tallach High School in Umguza District.

They produced the best results in the November 2015 public examinations.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education last Friday rewarded the institutions with medals, certificates and floating shields at the Better Schools Programme Zimbabwe provincial merit awards that were held at Somvubu Secondary School in Bubi District.

At primary school level, the ministry considered the schools with the highest percentage of candidates who attained aggregate four units at Grade Seven.

Dimpamiwa Primary School scooped pole position with 11 pupils each obtaining four distinctions.

Only 41 candidates had four distinctions at Grade 7 in the entire province.

The school with the highest percentage pass rate in the 2015 Ordinary Level examinations was John Tallach (formerly known as Ingwenya Mission) in Umguza district. The boarding school which selects students with a high pass rate at Grade Seven attained a 97.66 percent pass rate.

Under non-selecting boarding schools, George Silundika Secondary School was the best with a 61.95 percent pass rate while Somvubu Secondary School in Bubi beat the day schools with 47.73 percent.

John Tallach had 67 pupils with more than five As at O-Level, the highest in the province.

At Advanced Level, Inyathi had the biggest number of candidates who got more than 10 points, with 37 out of 66 students attaining more than 10 points from three subjects.

However, John Tallach had a 100 percent pass rate at Advanced level with 17 out of 17 students scoring more than 10 points.

John Tallach High School scooped the best overall performance award at both O and A- Level in the 2015 examinations.

Among urban primary schools, Ingagula Primary School in Hwange had the most improved Grade 7 results in the province, recording an 84 percent pass rate in 2015, up from 30 percent the previous year.

Zimwatuga Primary School in Tsholotsho was the most improved among rural schools, rising from six percent to 63 percent.

Most improved school performance at O- Level was seen at Khumbula High school, also in Tsholotsho, which had a 42 percent pass rate, up from seven percent in 2014.
