Matabeleland Tuskers won by 4 wickets (with 22 balls remaining)

MATABELELAND Tuskers maintained their chase for a first ever limited overs title with a four wicket win over MidWest Rhinos at Queens Sports Club yesterday.

The hosts were hard pressed for a win following a humiliating thumping by Mountaineers last weekend which had left them a point away from Mashonaland Eagles. After yesterday’s win, they are now guaranteed a place in the final of the Pro50 tournament.

The visitors were all out for 185 runs after 43.2 overs.

Matabeleland Tuskers wrapped up the match in 46.2 overs when a four by Keith Dabengwa for his 45 runs was enough to eclipse the total of 185 that they had been given to chase.

Dabengwa’s runs’ tally came from 49 balls of which he scored two fours.

At the end of 45 overs Tuskers were 177 for six needing nine runs from 30 balls to win at an average of 3.93 per over.

The next over yielded seven runs leaving them to chase two to win the match from 24 deliveries and Dabengwa’s four was enough to seal the game.

Michael Chinouya had a good day with the ball picking up three wickets for the loss of 43 runs as he tried to save MidWest Rhinos’ scalp.

Brian Chari was the toast of the home team with the bat scoring the highest score of 63 from 84 deliveries in eight overs.

Captain Godwill Mamhiyo contributed 23 runs.

Prince Masvaure was the pick of the visitors’ batting line up with 51 runs with Vusi Sibanda weighing in with 34 runs.
