MATABELELAND Tuskers seem to have bounced back from their slumber to dominate local cricket with the team on top of the franchise cricket tables. Stan Staddon, the chief executive officer of Matabeleland Tuskers, believes hard work and the decision to use younger players is beginning to pay dividends. Last year they failed to retain the Logan Cup, an event they have dominated since franchise cricket was introduced some years ago.

“Last year we were rebuilding. We got younger players into the team and gave them a chance to play and gain experience. This season we’ve come right, the boys are playing well.

“We’re happy that we’re going into the Christmas break at the top of the four-day game log and 50 limited overs table,” said Staddon.

He paid tribute to the technical team and players for the unity of purpose and desire to excel.

“Obviously we’ve worked well as a team and we’ve the right focus,” said Staddon.

Tuskers have a wealth of talent in Sean Williams, Brian Chari, Steve Chimhamhiwa, Charles Coventry, Gavin Ewing, Goodwill Mamhiyo, Keeth Megan and John Nyumbu.
