They were crowned at the ZNCC annual business awards dinner in the capital recently.
Ms Mutunzi was voted top businesswoman ahead of MBCA’s Ms Charity Jinya and Baztech’s Ms Caroline Chirima, who came in first and second position.
Mr Mataranyika scooped the top businessman of the year award after PrintWorks’ Mr Ross Conlon was voted the second runner-up, while Twenty-Third Century Systems’ Mr Ellas Chanakira was the first runner-up.
Mr Mataranyika came second to TN Holdings’ Mr Tawanda Nyambirai in last year’s edition of the awards.
In the entrepreneur of the year category Costain’s Mr Tendai Chimuriwo walked away with the award, while Maranatha Junior School’s Mr Samuel Mudavanhu was the only runner-up. The best small to medium enterprises person of the year went to Laguard Insurance’s Mr Reward Tugwete.
Guest of honour at the event TN Holdings chairman Mr Tawanda Nyambirai challenged local enterprises to be innovative in dealing with the prevailing liquidity squeeze.
“Although the challenge of liquidity is curtailing economic growth prospects, there are other factors which we also need not to ignore, as that liquidity is being realised as a result of inefficiencies in other sectors of the economy.
“Companies need to be innovative by way of diversifying operations or by teaming up in the form of mergers or synergies to create a critical mass,” he said.
In terms of the sectoral awards, the top exporters during the last trading year were Hunyani Holdings, which came first; Zimbabwe Spinners and Weavers, and GoldDriven Tobacco were the runners-up in the manufacturing sector in that order.
The best exporters award in the mining sector went to Zimbabwe Platinum Holdings and Mimosa Platinum, respectively.
In the tobacco sector, Zimbabwe Leaf Tobacco, Northern Tobacco and Tribac were the top exporters for the year 2010.
The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe, Graton Investments and Sino-Zim Cotton Holdings were voted the top exporting companies in the agriculture sector, according to figures from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Flower Exports, Partnership for Import and Export and Gardensite Farm were recognised for being the top exporting firms in the horticulture sector.
The ZNCC business awards also recognised players in the hunting industry. Chipitani Safari Company, Bromley Gameskin Tannery and Chifuti Safaris, respectively, were rewarded for being the country’s top exporters in the sector.
