A match commissioner, whose report is the basis of the Premier Soccer League charging Highlanders over disturbances that occurred after the end of a league match against Chicken Inn appears to have a poor understanding of geography.

Nelson Kusosa, the match commissioner on the day, wrote in his report to the PSL that “confusion then emerged as Highlanders’ players confronted the assistant referee demanding that he should have signalled for offside. Meanwhile, the Chicken Inn players confronted the referee presumably for ending the game when their team was in a very good scoring position”.

“Supporters from the Southern/Soweto stand and mainly in Highlanders colours started throwing missiles onto the pitch. As the police moved in to try and control the situation, more missiles were thrown and the supporters then invaded the pitch throwing more missiles even at the police. Some supporters from the Eastern stand joined in the pandemonium forcing the police to retreat to the tunnels despite using dogs to scare away spectators.”

However, the Soweto stand, which Highlanders’ supporters favour, is on the western side of the stadium, not south as Kusosa’s report indicates.

Another predominantly Bosso fans’ stand that Kusosa refers to as the eastern stand, is actually the southern stand, popularly known as Empankweni. The eastern stand is the Mpilo End where visiting teams’ supporters sit and there was no pitch invasion from that direction. – @skhumoyo2000
