ZIFA technical director Nelson Matongorere’s days at the national association are numbered following the conclusion of the World Player of the Year voting process and Caf C licence examination leak investigations. Following the embarrassing incident in which an unknown person voted in former Zimbabwe Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo and captain Esrom Nyandoro’s place, Zifa immediately set up an investigation committee led by Zifa board competitions boss, Benedict Moyo that has since concluded the investigations.

The investigations also covered the Caf B licence issue where a former Warriors coach was caught copying during the examination and was not expelled while some certificates also went missing under mysterious circumstances.

But instead, the Zifa technical director decided to disqualify Victoria Falls based Dumile Mpofu from whom the coach was copying.
“The investigations have been concluded and the committee tasked with that will present their report to the Zifa board at the end of the month. The same committee will make their recommendations which will obviously be implemented,” said the Zifa source.

Matongorere’s name appeared on the Fifa list of panelists as the Warriors captain who voted for Real Madrid and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Gerard Pique of Barcelona and Spain and the eventual winner, Barcelona and Argentina’s Messi while for the Coach of the Year he had Pep  Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson.

Only Radio and television personality Charles Mabika and Rosemary Mugadza confirmed casting the ballot on behalf of Zimbabwean journalists and Mighty Warriors respectively.

“Heads will definitely roll, that is a fact but at the moment we would have to wait for the d-day,” said the source.
Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze also confirmed the conclusion of the investigations but did not elaborate further.
“Yes, the investigations are over and that is all I can say for now,” said Mashingaidze.

Former Warriors coach Gumbo denied participating in the voting process and even threatened to sue whoever will be found guilty of having used his name to vote.

An angry Gumbo said he was shocked to read in the media that he voted as the Warriors coach.
“I am shocked by what is being said that I voted in the Fifa Ballon d’Or. I want to put the record straight that Rahman Gumbo did not vote in that process and in fact I don’t even know the shape and colour of the ballot paper,” said a fuming Gumbo then.

Matongorere fumed when contacted for a comment on the allegations at the time;
“Please, please leave me alone, isn’t you have already written all the nonsense already so what do you want me to say,” he said before switching off his phone.

The controversial Matongorere was recently told not to sit on the Warriors bench as his job had nothing to do with the technical teams.
