Matsika’s Shisa Nyama in Luveve (koChigumira) tomorrow celebrates one year of fine barbecue with an entire day of free entertainment spiced with a variety of prizes for lucky patrons.

Almost one year ago, Joseph Dzova took a leap of faith and opened Matsika Shisa Nyama and Bottle Store with the aim of bringing something new and fresh to the high density suburb of Luveve.

Dzova said they were celebrating the success of the business and the support they have received from patrons over the last year. Club DJs and up-and-coming artistes have been invited to complement the games and competitions planned for guests who will attend the celebrations.

“Several DJs have been engaged to come and perform at our anniversary party alongside some local talented artistes. We’re trying to keep things simple because that’s what has attracted our clientele to Matsika Shisa Nyama,” Dzova said.

Matsika’s Shisa Nyama has likely been successful as it has kept things fresh and fun for families and individuals alike in a variety of ways. The budding leisure spot has a clean, open air sitting area for patrons to enjoy their meals after having been served by the well trained staff.

Quality meat including brisket, chicken, sausages, pork and ribs is served there but Dzova said their best seller was the sausages and green salad made with cucumber, tomatoes, onions, avocado, pears and apples.

“The quality of our meat is one of the major reasons why our spot has become one of the joints to patronise on any given day. We also value interaction with customers,” he said.

Apart from the Shisa Nyama, patrons have access to ice cold alcoholic beverages from the bottle store which is part of the establishment.

On the gradual growth of his business, Dzova said patience had paid off considering that he had almost quit when the business was barely generating $30 in sales. He also detailed his plans for expansion which include the launch of a sports bar before the end of the year.

Over the year, celebrities and socialites such as Babongile Sikhonjwa, football players and artistes have made the joint a favoured haunt.
