RENOWNED Tshibilika muso, Obediah Matulana, has scored a double by releasing a live DVD album titled Zihlangene and earning a nomination at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima)billed for Wednesday in Harare.
This double feat comes after 16 years of toiling by Matulana without any recognition, except for his breakthrough song Divorce which became a hit in the late 90s.

Known as Dr Jah Kanindo to his legion of fans, the veteran musician diversified into reggae in 2013 and became popular with the album titled Testing the Ground.

Now, he is over the moon following his latest DVD.

“It’s been a very long journey with twists and turns for me in this music industry, but I have soldiered on because I’m doing what I love most.

“I’m happy that as an artiste I’ve moved to modern times of getting my creative output and recorded what matches the times we are living in. In this DVD I’ve captured all of my famous songs which are my trademarks,” said Matulana.

Zihlangene, a six-track DVD comprises songs like Divorce, Asambeni Emakhaya, Cde Joshua Nkomo, Testing the Ground and I’m Sorry Sathane.

“Testing the Ground was my 15th album and this album was prompted by my South African fans who suggested that I explore other genres and diverge from my Tshibilika genre.

“A lot of my fans have responded very well to my new genre,” said Matulana. His live DVD was produced locally by popular musician and producer of the famous Kura Mwanangu track, Nkosana Mthunzi, Thintitha Tshuma and himself. On his nomination at the Zima, Matulana said he is grateful and honours the gesture.

“To be nominated in any event is very good and I’m grateful to be honoured because this shows that I’m working hard and my efforts are being seen out there.”
