BULAWAYO Mayor, Martin Moyo, has urged local designers – Sidumiso Tshuma, Saneliso Mpofu and Zanele Dube to represent the country well at the Durban Fashion Fair. The Bulawayo designers will grace the prestigious fashion event which started yesterday and ends on Saturday in South Africa. Moyo, who held an event at his City Hall offices on Tuesday to bid the designers farewell, said he was impressed with the designer’s participation as it is a sign that Bulawayo talent is being recognised internationally.

“I’m hoping the designers represent us well and learn more from fashion gurus from other parts of the world and bring new ideas back home to help the fashion industry grow,” Moyo said.

He also advised them to be well versed with the country’s current affairs as they will be Zimbabwe’s ambassadors during their stay in South Africa.

The trio left Bulawayo for Durban on Tuesday and is expected back home on Sunday. But before leaving, the designers showcased some of their designs to the Mayor who seemed to like what he saw.

The collection mainly comprised of formal and casual wear. Dube of Zah Design will be participating at the Fashion Fair for the first time. Her range comprises of different shades of green as her theme is bold and sophisticated.The Durban Fashion Fair is one of the leading fashion events in Africa. Over 1,500 temporal jobs are created through the hosting of the event which is now in its fourth edition.
