Costa Machingauta

Budiriro House of Assembly representative Costa Machingauta (MDC-T) was on Saturday arraigned before Gweru magistrate courts to answer charges of raping a Midlands State University student.
Magistrate Tendai Madanhire remanded Machingauta in custody to June 20.
He was not asked to plead and was advised to apply to the High Court for bail.

The state represented by prosecutor Calvin Guvheya said the MDC-T legislator is also studying at the same institution in Gweru and was writing examinations.
Machingauta is alleged to have taken the complainant to Midlands Hotel where he was booked on Thursday night.

He allegedly forced himself on the student at the hotel.
The student reported the rape at Gweru Central Police Station the following day leading to Machingauta’s arrest.
