MDC-T Gutu district secretary Calisto Gandashanga, 45, has been dragged to court for allegedly raping his nine-year-old daughter.
Gandashanga of Mpandawana Growth Point pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape when he appeared before Gutu resident magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini on Monday.
Gandashanga was remanded in custody to tomorrow for further trial after being denied bail due to the gravity of his case.
Vhitorini advised him to apply to the High Court for bail.

It is the State case that on March 20 at around midnight Gandashanga woke up from his bedroom and proceeded to a bedroom where his nine-year-old daughter was sleeping.

The court heard that Gandashanga opened the unlocked door to the room and sneaked into the naked minor’s blankets.
He raped her once.

The court heard that apparently because of fear the girl did not scream or tell anyone what had happened.
The court further heard that the girl woke up and proceeded to school as usual but when she reached school, a female teacher who was watching her getting into class called the girl.

The teacher asked her why she seemed to be having difficulties in walking and that is when the child narrated her ordeal.  School authorities reported the matter to the police leading to Gandashanga’s arrest.
