THE Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) Midlands Chapter has agreed to form a consortium of contractors in a bid to get bigger projects in the province and the country at large.

Addressing members at the inaugural provincial meeting held in Gweru on Monday, ZBCA secretary general for Midlands Chapter, Mr Fordson Ndlovu,  said the only way local players could win multi-million dollar tenders was by forming a consortium.

Mr Ndlovu, who is also Fordcon Construction Company managing director, said there was power in numbers.

“We have to work together; we have to form a consortium so that we get huge projects. It’s sad to note that we have big projects that are given to regional or international companies which we can do if we put our machinery, workers and brains together,” he said.

Mr Ndlovu said local contractors have over the years shown professionalism in their operations.

“It is important for Zimbabweans to promote local contractors who produce high quality work in line with the Zim-Asset cluster on infrastructural development for economic development,” he said.

The Midlands Chapter is headed by Zimbuild construction company chief executive officer Mr Tinashe Manzungu.

Committee members are Mr Golden Muposiwa of Tinshel Properties, Mrs Moreblessing Kunyangwe of Luxury Living International, Mr Marshal Gwandira of Vaka Concrete, Mr Admire Botso of Chegutu town council and Mr Jonathan Champion of J M construction of Mvuma.

The ZBCA is a non-profit membership-based national association registered in 1992 in terms of Section 33 of the Labour Relations Act to represent indigenous building contractors in the categories of building and civil, as well as electrical, mechanical and structural steel engineering fields. — @pchitumba1
