THE Midlands Pool League (MPL) will hold an independence pool tournament which starts tomorrow and runs up to Monday at Toyo Shopping Centre in Gweru.
Premier League and Division One clubs are expected to take part in the pool jamboree which will be held to celebrate the country’s hard-won freedom.MPL chairman Vandirayi Hove confirmed the event and called on clubs intending to take part to register ahead of the  tournament.

“We will be holding our independence tournament at Toyo Shopping Centr which will be held over the independence and Easter Holidays.  We are expecting our clubs in the Premier League as well as those in Division One to come through and register for the tournament. Registration is $2,” he said.

Hove said in light of the festivities prizes for the winning teams will include a goat for the top four teams.

He said: “In the spirit of celebrating our independence and Easter the prizes will be as follows: winners of the tournament will walk away with a goat and $75 while runners up will get a goat and $50. Third and fourth place will take home a goat and $25 and a goat respectively.”

Meanwhile, the pool league boss said three teams will represent the league when the province clashes with Bulawayo Pool League in what is dubbed the Champions of Champions Tournament in the City of Kings at the end of the month.

Last year’s league champions Mukwa, ZBC and academics MSU will represent the league.
