GOVERNMENT has assured the Mighty Warriors they will soon receive their Olympic Games Samsung Galaxy S7 as they are now involved in clearing the consignment which had been confiscated by Zimra upon arrival in the country last month.

Over a month after the Summer Games ended in Rio, the Mighty Warriors are yet to snap some selfies with their smart phones which were availed to all athletes who participated at the Olympics in August by Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Electronics distributed 12 500 mobile phones to all the 2016 Olympians. But the Mighty Warriors missed out on collecting their phones at Samsung Galaxy Studio at the Olympics Village in Rio de Janeiro as they were based in Paulo and returned straight home after they were knocked out.

Sports Commission acting director general Joseph Muchechetere this week told the women’s football stakeholders that the players will soon receive their handsets.

“The issue of handsets is being handled and soon the players should be receiving the phones.  Zimra wanted to know that the consignment was not for commercial purposes as there were no supporting documents from IOC and that has since been sorted and all the papers were availed to Government through the Ministry of Sport and Recreation who are seriously addressing the issue.

“So there is nothing to worry about or to continue arguing about over the matter, the system has already been activated and the delivery of phones has taken some time because we had to wait for paper work from IOC but all that has since been done.

“Players should receive their phones soon as it is being handled by the Government,” said Muchechetere.

Zimbabwe women’s soccer team made history when they became the first local national football team to qualify for the Olympics.
