THE Zimbabwe Miners’ Federation (ZMF) has entered into an agreement with a local engineering firm, Yadgen for the supply of gold milling equipment to small-scale miners on hire purchase.

The move is part of ZMF’s efforts to improve mechanisation of its membership to boost gold production.

In an interview, ZMF chief executive officer Wellington Takavarasha said under the deal Yadgen will release the equipment to small-scale miners who have the capacity to pay back.

“We’re pleased to announce that the federation has entered into an agreement with Yadgen for the supply of crushing and milling equipment on hire purchase. ZMF does the due diligence to assess the miner’s ability to pay back.

“The miner gets full milling equipment and accessories and ancillary staff of his choice on zero deposit. The equipment will be paid in three instalments,” he said.

Takavarasha said the first equipment availed under the agreement will be delivered to Peace Mine in Silobela.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Walter Chidhakwa is expected to launch the programme at the end of the month.

Takavarasha said ZMF was also willing to enter into a similar arrangement with other mining suppliers.

Peace Mine has been touted as one of the good models of small-scale miners in the country producing an average of five kilogrammes of gold per month.

Gold deliveries by the small-scale miners to Fidelity Printers and Refiners have increased from less than 2,000kg a month last year to 3,784kg recorded in July.

The increase has been attributed to improved legislative compliance in the trading of the yellow metal.
