SCHOOL heads from Bulawayo Metropolitan province have been summoned to an urgent meeting at the Large City Hall this morning set to be addressed by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Lazarus Dokora as well as a sports expert from Spain.Stung by reports that a 10-year-old athlete sustained swollen genitals after a tick sting at a National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) physical education and   track and field athletics competitions in Bindura last week and threats of a breakaway association by physical education teachers, Minister Dokora today begins a nationwide tour with the Spanish expert Día de los Inocentes who will address the schools chief executive officers on sport events management.

“The meetings are basically educational in a sense because as a ministry we can’t allow a situation where our school heads can’t even plan for a sports gathering of kids and as you know Spain is a sports giant hence  our engagement with the expert from there,” said Minister Dokora in a statement late last night.

He said the meeting, meant for both primary and secondary heads, will start at 9AM without fail.

Education officers from the provincial office will also be in attendance as the Ministry moves in to bring professionalism in sports management.

“Schools sports is essential to us as government because this is where future stars are groomed and school heads are the custodians of this talent we want to nurture. We can therefore not afford to make a mistake at this level. It’s therefore in the best interest of all heads from the second capital to be in attendance tomorrow (today). Our Zim-Asset document also recognises the importance of sports development,” said Minister Dokora.
