THE Minister of Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of Culture and Heritage Abednico Ncube will officiate at this year’s Great Limpopo Cultural Trade Fair taking place at Mhlanguleni Cultural Centre in Chiredzi.

The three-day fair which kicks off tomorrow is a platform for the cross pollination of cultural experiences between South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwean Chitsonga or Tshangani groups through the trading of cultural artifacts, traditional foods and showcasing of traditional dances.

The cultural trade fair will be held in a cultural set-up with delegates expected to be exposed to the deep rooted culture of Chitsonga people from three countries as a way of promoting their language and unique culture.

Centre for Cultural Development Initiative (CCDI) founder who is also coordinating the annual cultural trade fair, Herbert Hanyani Phikela, said the stage for the fair being held under the theme: “The Role of Culture in Food security and Sustainable Community Livelihoods” was set.

“We feel honoured to have the minister grace our event where a lot of activities have been lined up.

“Visiting delegates will be taken through some lessons on culture by technocrats as well as take part in indigenous games. They’ll also be exposed to the indigenous foods which will dominate the fair in line with the theme,” Phikela said.

He said this year, Mozambique has promised to bring in more cultural groups which will entertain delegates.

Last year, the cultural trade fair was graced by Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Senator Shuvai Mahofa, chiefs from Mozambique and others.
