THE Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs Cde Abedinico Ncube’s son, Macbeth was sent to remand prison for attending court drunk yesterday.

He had gone to court when a local man wanted to withdraw malicious damage to property charges against him.

Macbeth, 33, who is facing charges of malicious damage to property and assault came to court as Wellington Kwashira, 32, had indicated that he wanted to withdraw the malicious damage to property charge.

Macbeth is alleged to have assaulted Thulani Moyo and then destroyed property belonging to Kwashira in February this year.

Moyo has not indicated any intention to withdraw the assault charge.

Macbeth’s ordeal comes a week after his younger brother Emmanuel, 27, and eleven other miners appeared in court for allegedly severely assaulting two miners after tying them with wire for illegally mining gold at a mine where the minister’s younger son is employed as the operations manager.

The 12 were remanded out of custody to June 10 for trial.

However, it was a different matter in Macbeth’s case as magistrate Sheila Nazombe was irritated when he turned up in court drunk yesterday morning.

When Macbeth stood in the dock, he was visibly drunk.

As a result, the magistrate remanded him in custody to today to ensure that he attends the court in a sober state for the withdrawal of the case against him.

Kwashira would again have to attend court today to formally withdraw the charges.

Allegations by the State, represented by Marllony Mazorodze, are that on February 27 this year at around 2AM, Macbeth entered at shop in Gwanda Town and started throwing stones.

“In the process he damaged the shop’s glass door and an aluminum glass display.

“The noise made by the stone thrown by the accused person alerted one Thulani Moyo who went to investigate,” Mazorodze said.

However, on seeing Moyo, Ncube allegedly became more violent and pelted him with stones.

“As Moyo went out to investigate, the accused person viciously pelted him with a stone and struck him once on the left elbow,” said Mazorodze.

Moyo who was referred to the hospital for treatment, reported the matter to the police leading to Macbeth’s arrest.
