Minnie Dlamini has turned down an offer by SABC bigwigs to take over as the new presenter of Live Amp – South Africa’s premier music show.

A search to fill Pearl Thusi’s position is still underway, almost three weeks after it was announced that she left the show which airs every Friday.

While the SABC would not be drawn into commenting about the details surrounding Pearl’s exit, speculation has been rife that her deicsion to join a rival broadcaster allegedly angered the public broadcaster.

A week after Pearl’s departure from the show, Bonang Matheba was brought in as a guest presenter of the show. Both Bonang and Minnie’s presenting careers started at Live Amp.

It is also an open secret that Bonang and Minnie have an ongoing rivalry between them, often competing for the same endorsement deals and positions.

According to Sunday World, SABC offered the position to Minnie, however she turned it down.

“She was the first to be approached. Unfortunately she could not accept the job as she’s currently overcommitted and busy with her foundation and Soccer Zone.

“All the projects need her attention and she also has a few more projects lined up which we will announce soon,” Minnie’s publicist Jarred Doyle told the paper.

Jarred also poured cold water on rumours that Minnie snubbed the SABC.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that Minnie was approached for the position, but also rubbished rumours that she gave the broadcaster a cold shoulder.

Kaizer added that guest presenters will be used until a permanent presenter is found. – Channel24.
