ZIMBABWE’S representative at the  Miss World pageant, Tendai Bongani Hunda, yesterday evening finally left for the United Kingdom after she secured a visa.Hunda, who was first princess in the pageant five months ago, but is the national representative at the Miss World, left Harare International Airport aboard a South African Airways plane in the business class and is expected to touch down in London this morning.

The Miss World Finals will be held on December 14 at the Excel London.

Although a week late for the boot camp, Miss Zimbabwe Trust administrator Modester Muvhuni said they were not deterred by the delay and knew that she would travel to the United Kingdom.  The Miss World boot camp started last Thursday.

“We didn’t have any doubts about her travelling. We were only delayed by the visa but everything else, such as tickets, transfers and pocket money were in place,” she said.

Muvhuni said Hunda would be received by Miss World representatives in London as soon as she touches down.

She added that Miss Zimbabwe Trust  over the past weeks engaged a number of people to groom the new queen who was said to be ‘calm in the midst of the storm’.

“Hunda is naturally a gifted and talented person. She’s ready for the pageant as she  had been preparing for it hard. So we’re confident that she’ll do us proud there,” said Muvhuni.

Hunda was appointed two weeks ago as Miss Zimbabwe after Cathrine Makaya was booted out for denouncing Miss Zimbabwe Trust in the media.

According to the trust, Makaya was dethroned for being rebellious and unprofessional by violating the rules and regulations governing the conduct of a national queen.

Makaya had been on the throne for just  two months after taking over from Thabiso Phiri who resigned, allegedly over nude pictures of her that were leaked by her former boyfriend.

It has been a week of anxiety for many in the country as there was uncertainty over her trip since the visa delay.

Miss Zimbabwe has missed four days of the boot camp namely day two when the Miss World Talent Auditions were held last Friday and on Saturday day three, they held the cultural dancing, talent call-backs, and the sports elimination challenge.

On Sunday, that is day four,  the competition changed gears as the girls set out to London at the Gibson Hall for the “Service of World Unity, Love, Thanksgiving, and Remembrance”. The remembrance was for Miss Honduras, María José and sister  Sofia Trinidad Alvarado, who were gunned down by the  latter’s boyfriend barely a week before she was supposed to leave  for the boot camp.

It has been a dramatic Miss Zimbabwe tale since three queens have been crowned for the same position in five months.
