JACOB Moyana, the man behind the controversial Munotidako sungura hit, will be making his way to Bulawayo for a show at Palace Hotel Gardens on Friday evening.Moyana, who hails from the border town of Beitbridge, will be performing in the city for the first time with Charles Sibanda and Ndolwane Super Sounds.

Show organiser Assan Mandizvidza said Moyana would head to Plumtree and Filabusi for more shows after the Bulawayo gig.

“Moyana is scheduled to perform at Omadu Lodge in Plumtree on Saturday and 727 Sports Bar in Filabusi on Sunday. Everything is set and people should just come in their numbers,” he said.

Mandizvidza said he had roped in Sibanda and Ndolwane as he wanted to draw two types of people to the show.

“These guys are very good at what they do and I wanted everyone who loves Charles and those who love Moyana to come in their numbers hence the joint show. I know there are people who like Ndolwane Super Sounds and don’t prefer Moyana’s music and the other way round,” he said.

Moyana’s tracks, which include Pamha Takatarisa, have made rounds on social media, often leaving people stunned. He sings with a stammer in a way which makes his songs sound vulgar.

The musician was condemned this year by sungura maestro Alick Macheso who said his lyrics were vulgar and a disgrace to music. In response, Moyana described Macheso’s claims as misguided and unfortunate.

“Those who think that these lyrics are vulgar are people who are perverted in their thinking. These are proper Shona words that one can find in my village of Chiredzi,” the artiste was reported to have said.

The 33-year-old started strumming the guitar at the age of 11 in his rural home of Chipinge in the Days Hill area. For Moyana to break into the music scene, he had to participate in the Chibuku Road to Fame at the age of 22 where he won the competition with a group called Tinashe Express.

The group, which was then renamed Ghetto Express, recorded two albums Chiwepu Chembodza (2004) and Tarisiro/Toita Zviripo (2008).

Moyana broke away from Chabvakaira in 2008 and tried to revive his career in Beitbridge but failed.

He then relocated to Harare in 2009. His debut album Munotidako was finally released last year.
