INSIZA South MP, Cde Malach Nkomo has embarked on a project to mobilise resources towards construction of a boarding school in the constituency with a bias towards science subjects. Cde Nkomo said his aim was to produce more students from Insiza and neighbouring districts who would feed into the newly-established Gwanda State University (GSU).

The former broadcaster said he had started engaging mainly locals based in South Africa for them to contribute towards the project.
He said he was concerned about the low examination pass rates in schools in the province and said vibrant engagement of parents would bring positive change on pupils as well.

“We are not happy with the pass rate for our region and we are therefore calling on every parent in Insiza South to do their best in ensuring their children pass at schools,” said Cde Nkomo.

“I have started mobilising resources from friends in South Africa to build a low-cost boarding school that will offer science subjects. You will note that Gwanda State University offers places to students who will have excelled in sciences hence the need to have more schools offering science subjects.  This will see more students from this area benefiting from this institute of higher learning.”

Cde Nkomo said enhancing improved education performance was at the heart of the government’s economic blueprint, Zim Asset.
“We can’t sit back and wait for the government to do everything for us but we would like to do projects that are inclined to the Zim Asset,” he said.

Cde Nkomo urged parents to pay school fees on time. He also encouraged pupils to maximize their effort as they are the future leaders of the country.
Cde Nkomo said former students and other luminaries from the area should work together towards improving the state of education facilities in the area.
Insiza South has six secondary schools all which did not do well during their last public examinations.
