Mpumlwana is best known for her leading roles in TV series such as Interrogation Room and The Lab, and for her role in the Oscar-winning South African film Tsotsi.
She will feature as one of the lead actors on the show. This follows Seputla Sebogodi’s (Kenneth Mashaba’s) expected departure in August this year.

Mpumlwana auditioned with other heavyweights such as Real Goboza presenter Brenda Ngxoli, best known for playing Vuyo in Home Affairs.
Also in the line-up was businesswoman and actress Bonnie Mbuli, who has been in a string of international movies, including Drum along with Taye Diggs. Seasoned ex-Yizo Yizo actress Bubu Mazibuko, remembered as Thuli in Gaz’lam, also tried her luck.

A source close to the situation says Mpumlwana, who played Rochelle in past episodes of the series, came out as the judges’ favourite after the auditions. Our source says the actress’s part will be rolled out in the context of a new family that will be created to rival the existing ones.
“You’re aware that there will be no longer the Mashaba family after Paul and Kenneth left, so it makes sense that they will be introducing a new family on the show,” says our source.

Mpumlwana refuses to confirm or deny that she is joining the soap.
Her manager Phindile Xaba says: “The people at liberty to comment would be from Generations or their spokesperson,” says Xaba.

Generations’ publicity manager Nyagunda Chauke confirms the actress auditioned but refuses to say whether she’s been employed.
“We’ll make an announcement once everything is in place about the new actors or those who are leaving,” says Chauke. – Sowetan/Sunday Word.
