THE Matabeleland Swimming Board (MSB) will host a Junior Swimming championship for clubs based in Bulawayo at the Hillside Teachers’ College pool tomorrow.

The gala will feature Barracudas, BG Dolphins, Penguins, Zambezi Tigers, Crusaders and the School of Swimming.

Onye Onovo of the Barracudas and the School of Swimming’s Garrick Duff are expected to lead their respective teams to victory and should smash a number of existing records going by their present form.

The two are also part of the senior provincial team.

MSB press and liaison officer Joseph Gliwitzki said competition will be stiff at tomorrow’s junior championship.

“There are lots of boys and girls in the juniors’ category that swim extremely well and this event gives them a chance to once again prove themselves. This group has a lot of swimmers, who if properly groomed, can make it on the international stage,” said Gliwitzki.

He said this gala was in preparation for the National Junior Championships to be held on a yet to be announced date.

The junior championships will be contested by swimmers ranging from the Under-8 to the Under-12 age groups.

The Under-10s will compete in the 25M breaststroke and the 11 and 12-year-olds will take part in the 50M backstroke, butterfly and freestyle.
