STEPHEN Mthethwa and Auxilia Munyengwi are the winners of the Midlands Carling Black Label Provincial Pool tournament that was held at Mboma Bar in Mkoba 14, Gweru, on Saturday.
Mthethwa proved to be unstoppable in the men’s category beating every opponent he faced while Munyengwi was the victor in the women’s category.
The top five players in the men’s category — Mthethwa, Alfred Madoha, Courage Majoni, Taurayi Takataka, and Bothwell Mafunu and Munyengwi will represent the Midlands in the Carling Black Label national finals on October 26 in Masvingo.

Mthethwa walked away with $250, with Madoha getting $150, Majoni $100 while Munyengwi received $50.
Passmore Ndebvu, the Midlands Pool Association fixtures officer said that it was a competitive tournament.
The organisers came up with 50 players for the event.

“It was a competitive tournament, even though the number of players participating in this year’s tournament was reduced to 50 players,” said Ndebvu, encouraging women to take part in regional tournaments as there were few participants this year.

“We need more women in Midlands to participate in regional tournaments.  Women’s participation in this year’s event was not impressive,” said Ndebvu.
