A final round card of 41 under was enough for Chico Mulinde to beat off a sizeable amateur field to win the inaugural Search Bulawayo Tournament held at Bulawayo Golf Club on Saturday.
Mulinde, who is the general manager of Holiday Inn Bulawayo, was elated. “I would like to thank the team I played with for giving me a tough time on the course and I’m really happy I managed to pull through and win,” said Mulinde shortly after receiving a trophy and being presented with a Kariba holiday.

The second prize of a PC Tablet was won by Edmund Zerf, who carded a 38. Matt Coughlan won the third prize of a dinner for two with a final round 37. Francis Chigwedere bagged the two club prize.

The tournament will see six towns across the country participating in the Search Zimbabwe Golf Cup, with the Bulawayo tournament being the inaugural event.
Held under the theme “Promoting business synergy through sport”, the event also provided an opportunity for Search Zimbabwe to explain their product to the participants.

“We want to engage the business community through sporting events such as these to introduce our website product search.co.zw. It is a website we’re building that will allow anyone around the world to search for anything related to Zimbabwe” said Search Zimbabwe director Ngoni Mudzimu.

Bulawayo Gold Club manager Phil McDermott said: “It was a good crowd, the course played well and we did our utmost to keep it in good condition despite the lack of rain.”
Fawcett Security chief executive officer Nigel Fawcett welcomed the initiative.

“Things are pretty tough at the moment, but what Zimbabwe needs is positive thinking to pull through these difficult times. Sport offers a chance for one to relax and refresh the mind away from the rigours of the office,” said Fawcett.

The next tournament is pencilled in for Harare on March 12.
